Our Mission
St. John’s Bread and Life’s mission is to respect the dignity and rights of all persons by ensuring access to healthy, nutritious food and comprehensive human services resulting in self-sufficiency and stability.
Our Vision
We Envision a community which works to reduce food insecurity, eliminate hunger, and encourage greater stability and self-sufficiency through comprehensive social services by respecting the dignity and human rights of all people.
Our Community
We serve some of the most vulnerable communities in Brooklyn and Queens, where many families and individuals struggle to afford basic necessities due to many factors, including the continued rise in housing and food costs. Additionally, gentrification has drastically reshaped these neighborhoods, driving up rents and displacing long-time residents while wages have failed to keep pace with the increasing cost of living. As a result, many working families, seniors on fixed incomes, and individuals experiencing homelessness or food insecurity find themselves in urgent need of assistance. Our emergency food and social services provide a critical safety net, ensuring that those facing economic hardship can access nutritious meals, essential resources, and support to navigate these challenging circumstances.
