Dear Friends,
It’s been just over 6 weeks since the pandemic struck. I am sure that you can agree with me that our lives have been changed forever. We self-isolate to protect ourselves and those around us. Our new dress code requires us to wear masks and gloves, wash our hands frequently, and practice social distancing — all in the hopes of defeating this deadly virus.
The pandemic doesn’t discriminate. It touches all lives across all socio-economic groups: the elderly, frail, disabled, white, black, rich, and poor. Our challenge is to be there for those in their time of need.
At Bread and Life we typically register 40-to-50 new guests per month, we are now registering 40-to-50 per day. The need has grown so quickly that most emergency food providers like us are scrambling to meet the increasing need. Each day the line grows longer and longer, and those waiting show up earlier and earlier. Our staff do their very best to ensure that everyone on the line is served with the same dignity and compassion that are the hallmarks of Bread and Life.
The immediate response from foundations, corporations, and individuals has given us the support we need to act now, but we know that the road ahead is filled with uncertainty, and the numbers who need us continue to grow. Please remember Bread and Life in the coming months. Your support will ensure that we can continue to be here for years to come.
Thank you again for supporting us and may God continue to bless you,
Sr. Caroline Tweedy, RSM
