Dear Friends,
As I was driving to Bread and Life this week, I couldn’t help but think how much our lives have changed in just a few short days. My usual hour drive took just 30 minutes, and the normally crowded streets were nearly empty. I marveled at the fact that so many people were following the governor’s directives to stay home and be safe and healthy. Then, as I pulled up to Bread and Life, I saw guests already lined up long before we opened, waiting patiently for a hot meal and some groceries, it made me realize once again how vital our services are in the community. I am very proud I am able to work side by side with so many dedicated staff, knowing that each one has committed to doing their very best under the most trying of circumstances.
Wearing masks and gloves and using sanitizers is difficult but has become the new reality for us. Closing doors and keeping guests at a distance has become the new reality as well. Social distancing is forcing us to respond to guests in a different light, yet our staff continue to work hard to ensure that every person who needs us is treated with dignity, compassion, and respect.
Please know that we will remain open during this crisis to serve with the same spirit that makes Bread and Life the unique place it is.
As the executive director I want to take this opportunity to thank our staff for the amazing work they are doing during this most difficult time in our history and ask you to keep all of us in your prayers.
Thank you,
Sr. Caroline, RSM
